The Jacqueline | A Fossil Watch Review

Last year I wrote a post on an Olivia Burton watch but since then I've replaced it with two new ones by the brand Fossil and I couldn't be happier!

To be honest, I'm sure I could have bought another Olivia Burton watch and been content, so it's nothing against the brand, but I've fallen out of love with the one I have. The dial was too small and the overall face was... well a bit boring! I really didn't want to have to order online again from them and wait for shipping etc so I scoped out the watch market and for my budget I landed on Fossil.

I bought the silver Jacqueline model last summer and have worn it every single day throughout fall and winter. I love the large face and the clean mix of traditional roman numerals and contemporary minimalistic styling. The little window that shows the date comes in really handy too! I chose a pale grey strap that pairs beautifully with all my silver accessories. I think Fossil describes it best as "a flawless essential, the refined Jacqueline puts a sophisticated spin on a ladylike classic!"

Now that it's almost June, I'm alternating between silver and gold accessories and needed a warm toned watch to transition to. I loved my original silver Jacqueline Fossil watch so much that I bought the very similar rose gold model. It instead has an off white face, a contrasting red second hand and a slightly distressed camel coloured strap.

Now the best part for last - they offered me complimentary engraving for both my watches! You can choose between fonts and they will engrave a name, date or message on the back of the dial for you. I think that would be such a sweet touch if it was a birthday or anniversary gift! But since it was just for myself I went for just my name.

Overall, I highly recommend checking out Fossil for watches. They have a extensive collection at affordable prices and I honestly could collect all of them!

Essential Oils | My Basic Collection

There is nothing more natural or pure than the oil extracted from plants. Essential Oils are my current obsession but I can see them quickly becoming a long term favourite, whether its to use as natural skin care, aroma therapy or house hold remedies.

I first discovered Escents, a local Vancouver brand of essential oils, when my mum gave me a diffuser for christmas a few years ago. At the time, I only really understood that the oils were to be used as home fragrance. But recently, while looking up ways to go more natural in my skincare routine, I was able to read up on the multitude of ways the oils can be used. And that's when I started slowly collecting all my favourite oils. I'm still experimenting with them but my favourites so far are Lavender, Breath Easy (eucalyptus/rosemary), Relax (lavender/orange), Thieves (clove/lemon) and Tea Tree.

The only skincare I use now is coconut oil mixed with a drop or two of Lavender and Tea Tree which I apply in the morning and at night. I find it really helps with redness and blemishes and the calming scent is a real plus too! The Breath Easy blend, I like to diffuse when my husband or I have a cough or cold and it's great just to freshen up the apartment too. The Relax blend, I like to diffuse if I'm feeling anxious or really anytime because it's such a lovely scent! Thieves is a really interesting and has a lot of folklore behind the name and the oils that are blended together. One version of the story as I know it, is that during the Plague, there were thieves that would rob the desist and to avoid the smell the thieves would wrap cloths soaked in a combination of oils over their nose and mouth. Little did they know that the antiseptic properties of those oils did more than just disguise the smell but actually protected them from catching diseases themselves. And that's how it got its name. I like to rub the oil blend on the soles of my feet. It's said that your feet are one of the fastest ways to absorb an oil apart from inhalation. By applying the oil to your feet it will boost your immune system and help prevent catching a cold. I'm no expert so I recommend doing your own research before applying oils just to be on the safe side! Most oils need to be diluted with a carrier oil (ex coconut oil) so that they're not too potent when applied directly to the skin.

I also have rollerball versions, and depending on the day I'll slip one into my purse for on the go benefits. I have rollerballs of lavender, grapefruit/bergamot, rose/jasmine, and cypress/peppermint. I love to roll on the lavender before bed to help me relax and fall asleep. The grapefruit bergamot is great to help me wake up in the morning or re-energize throughout the day. The rose jasmine is a little too heavy of a scent for me, but a tiny dab is really great for an occasional floral scent. Lastly, the cypress peppermint rollerball is for muscle relief. I roll it across my lower back for cramps or on my neck and  temples for headache relief.

There is so much great information out there on essential oils, the possibilities are endless! What must have oils am I missing in my collection? Let me know what your favourites are and what you like to use them for. I'm always looking to try out new oils and blends!
