Granville Island - Outfit of the Day

Shinji and I went for a day trip to Granville Island and it was such a beautiful sunny February day!

Zara is coming out with some real gems recently and at surprisingly low prices too! For example I picked up this geometric pencil skirt for $19! The material is super stretchy and thick too. Although the sun was out on Granville Island, it was a bit chilly in the shade so I wore my jean jacket with it.

We visited a sake shop in which Shinji knows the owners of and sampled a few different ones. It's a cool company because it's made from organic local rice from Abbostford which is pretty unique! Shinji picked up a bottle of sake for home and then we headed to the market. We bought some fresh made ravioli and tomato pesto sauce for dinner that night!

I don't know how recent this mural is but it was the first time I'd seen it! It's so fun! I don't think this photo really captures how huge they are! I called them the BFG's - Big Friendly Giants (you may know what I'm talking about if you read Roald Dahl's book in 3rd grade).

Olivia Burton Watch Review

I've been admiring the minimalistic watch trend popping up everywhere and finally had to dive in and pick myself up one too!

I never got into the chunky Michael Kors watches that having been in style for the last few years so I just opted to not wear a watch at all. Then my coworker started sporting a Daniel Wellington big dial watch in silver with a black leather strap and I thought, that's it! I just adore the vintage and classic look of their watches. So I went online and did some research and came across an alternative to Daniel Wellington which is also a british watch company called Olivia Burton. Their prices were a smidgen more reasonable so I justified the purchase. Olivia Burton has a great selection and offers playful designs as well such as animal and floral motifs.

When scrolling through the Olivia Burton site I found this beauty and new it was the one! It's called The Dandy and features a midi dial which means the face of the watch is smaller in diameter compared to the big dial ones made popular by Daniel Wellington. The trend is to have the dial oversized but for me the watch is an investment and I didn't want it to be too trendy, so I decided to go the more conservative route.

The best part of course is that the slender leather strap is navy! Navy just looks so much better on my fair skin than black, so I was surprised and thrilled that they offered it in navy. Originally I was hoping to find it with silver hardware but had no luck and ordered it in the rose gold. I was pleasantly surprised though when it arrived and the muted rose gold looked really flattering on.

If you're considering investing in a Daniel Wellington watch I would recommend checking out Olivia Burton too. Both companies have beautiful watches. I'm looking forward to playing around pairing different bracelets with my new watch! I'm sure it will make many more appearances in future posts!

Hudson's Bay Blanket - Home Decor

I have lusted over the iconic wool Hudson's Bay Blanket for ages. There's just something about that classic bold print that I just can't get enough of!

It adds the perfect cozy canadian touch to our home. What I love is that it's not specific to the winter season, so it will look great thrown over an arm of the couch all year long. Though it may not get used in the summer, it still looks great!  This was given to Shinji and I as a Wedding gift by one of my bridesmaids and I just about melted! It's so thoughtful and something that we will use and cherish for so many years to come.

My mum knows of my obsession too and this Christmas gave me matching Hudson Bay socks!

Layering Necklaces - Pyrrha + Adina Reyter

Pyrrha is one of my all time favourite jewellery designers. It's a husband and wife team from Vancouver who have breathed new life into antique wax seals that they have cast into sterling silver, bronze or gold. Each piece has a story that describes the symbolism behind the original wax seal. The imperfections of the wax stamp is timeless and full of character and makes the necklace perfect to throw on over a t-shirt and jeans!

Neptune Talisman // King Neptune is symbolic of the sea and is the guardian of all its creatures.

Neptune was the first talisman I bought. I've always had a strong connection to the ocean and I feel like many wonderful things in my life have had a tie to it. On the back I had engraved the exact coordinates of my childhood home. I grew up on a tiny island off the Coast of Vancouver. I wanted to have this necklace as a memory of my happy childhood living there! I imagine in 100 years someone will find this necklace and the coordinates will direct them to that house on that little island! I just think that would be fun to find and wonder what the mystery behind that place was.

Love Truth Talisman // Inscribed are the words Love Truth. The hand with a heart in the palm is a symbol of sincerity.

I was looking for a Pyrrha wax seal that could represent my relationship with Shinji and I came across this one. I gravitated to its simple yet powerful message. It describes the root of love, beautifully.  I engraved the back with YVR and CTS, again to be mysterious hahaha! I didn't want to be too obvious by using our names or initials so I chose the airport codes of our home towns.

I love to layer them together and pairing them with this tiny triangle diamond necklace by Adina Reyter.
